Swappie, a Finnish scale-up specialized in refurbishing and reselling smartphones, is using coworking spaces as part of its flexible workplace strategy for non-production teams. Founded in 2015 and operating across Europe, the company has raised over €170 million and employs between 800 and 1,000 people.

About half of the staff works in logistics and technical refurbishment operations in Helsinki and in Tallinn, Estonia.

The other staff members have the opportunity to use coworking spaces internationally.

Coworking is used by in countries like Germany, Italy, and Spain, local business development and marketing leads, for instance. In Finland, employees who live far from Swappie’s Helsinki HQ can also work from nearby coworking spaces. Some project-based teams also use these spaces for focused sessions.

They are given access to coworking spaces via the Spacent platform. Spacent is a Finnish platform that enables on-demand office access, allows Swappie to scale its workspace footprint flexibly and efficiently.

According to Swappie’s Community Coordinator Emma Wheatley, quoted by the platform, Spacent helped the company downsize physical offices without losing access to professional space, streamlining costs and admin. The company is now moving further toward a coworking-based model as it continues to grow its presence in Europe.
